Home Sleep Studies vs. Overnight In-Lab Sleep Studies
There is a recent trend to utilize home sleep studies instead of in-lab sleep studies for the diagnosis of sleep apnea. One can find articles encouraging both. However, the accuracy of home sleep studies has not been proven, especially for decision-making for treatment.
The decision to use a home a study rather an in-lab study should be made very carefully because it may be a waste of resources and not totally accurate. This choice should be made with the input of an experienced sleep doctor and the patient.
