Home Sleep Studies vs. Overnight In-Lab Sleep Studies

There is a recent trend to utilize home sleep studies instead of in-lab sleep studies for the diagnosis of sleep apnea.  One can find articles encouraging both. However, the accuracy of home sleep studies has not been proven, especially for decision-making for treatment.

The decision to use a home a study rather an in-lab study should be made very carefully because it may be a waste of resources and not totally accurate.  This choice should be made with the input of an experienced sleep doctor and the patient.
